What pipe relining is

Relining, or cured-in-place pipe (CIPP), is a no-dig way of putting a fresh pipe inside the broken one you already have. We soak a soft liner in tough epoxy resin, feed it down through a cleanout, blow it tight against the inside of the old line, and let it set rock hard. What you end up with is one continuous tube with no joints for roots to push through; the very weak points that let Allawah's 1950s and 1960s clay sewers fail in the first place. It is a proven fix that has been around for decades, and the cured liner outlasts the homeowner who paid for it.

When you need it

Reach for relining when the pipe itself has gone, not just when something is stuck in it. In Allawah that usually shows up as a drain that backs up again a few weeks after every clear, a camera run that finds split clay, gaping joints or a wall of roots, a damp patch of lawn that never quite dries out over the sewer, or a whiff of sewage from a line that supposedly runs clear. Most of the older brick and fibro homes here are still on their original earthenware sewers, and the leafy street trees that make these blocks so pleasant are the same ones cracking the pipe open underneath. Once a line is at that stage, paying to jet it again is money spent on a problem that keeps coming back.

Why relining beats excavation

Allawah is one of the most compact pockets in the St George area, and that makes digging a real headache. On these tight lots the sewer tends to thread under a shared driveway, a narrow side path squeezed between two buildings, or a small courtyard with nowhere to stack the spoil; and in the unit and strata blocks there may be no open ground to dig at all. Relining sidesteps the lot by working down the existing cleanout, so the path, the slab and the few square metres of garden you have stay exactly as they were. It is quicker, with most homes back to normal inside a day, and once you add up the excavator, the new pipe and the cost of making good afterwards, the no-dig route is usually the cheaper one too.

The process

1. CCTV inspection maps every crack, joint failure and root intrusion in the line
2. High-pressure jetting cleans the pipe back to bare walls
3. Insert and inflate the resin-saturated liner against the host pipe
4. Cure the liner into a hard structural shell
5. Final camera pass verifies the finished pipe and you receive the before-and-after footage
